Creating Magical Christmas Memories: Our Private Santa Experience in Chesapeake
Christmas has always been a time of magic, wonder, and family traditions for me. Growing up, one of my most cherished memories was visiting the real Santa Claus in Richmond. I can still recall the excitement in my heart as my parents loaded me into the car for the two-hour drive, all so I could experience the magic of seeing Santa come down the chimney at the Historic Miller & Rhoads department store.
The Magic of Richmond Christmases
Every year, we made the pilgrimage to Richmond, and every year it was pure magic. As we rode the escalator to Santa Land, I’d feel the chill in the air and hear the gentle "bitter batter" of reindeer hooves on the roof. We would stand in line, our breath visible in the cold, but I didn’t mind. I was going to see Santa—the real Santa.
Inside, the store was a winter wonderland. The scent of gingerbread and hot cocoa filled the air, and twinkling lights adorned every corner. Then, the moment we had all been waiting for would arrive: Santa himself, coming down the chimney. I remember how my heart would leap with joy as Santa would call out, "Come on over, Denise!"—a magical moment that made me feel like the most special child in the world.
Carrying On the Tradition with My Children
As a parent, I knew I wanted to pass on this tradition to my own children. I wanted them to experience that same sense of wonder and excitement. I took my kids to the Children's Museum in Richmond, where they, too, would wait in anticipation, wide-eyed and filled with wonder, as Santa made his grand entrance.
Seeing the joy on their faces brought me back to my own childhood. It reminded me how much these traditions meant to me and how the spirit of Christmas had always lived in my heart. Those magical experiences of feeling like Santa knew my name, of being enveloped in the warmth of holiday cheer, were something I wanted to share with as many families as possible.

That’s why I decided to bring the Santa Experience right here to my studio in the heart of Great Bridge in Chesapeake. I wanted to create a private, exclusive Santa session where families could capture those magical moments and make memories that would last a lifetime. I wanted to recreate that feeling of stepping into a Christmas Wonderland, complete with the scent of freshly baked cookies from the North Pole Bakery and the chill of a winter’s day.

Nucita’s Journey: From Puerto Rico to Her Furever Home – Could It Be Yours?
On July 14, 2023, Nucita’s life took a devastating turn. Thrown into the streets, riddled with bumps and fractures, she was found under a bridge on Highway #52 in Cayey, Puerto Rico. Her small body had sustained five fractures to her hip and femur, leaving her in unimaginable pain. For days, she lay helpless in the rain, waiting for someone to come and save her.
“I remember seeing her post on July 16th at 4:36 PM—it was shocking. No one had done anything, and she was just left there. The bad weather made it worse, and when I heard she was still out there, I knew I had to act.” – Nucita’s Rescuer.
Her rescuers, fueled by determination and love, ventured out into the pouring rain to find her. When they arrived, the ground was already starting to cover her, but then, she raised her head, as if to say, "You came to save me." Her rescuer recalls: “I looked at her and said, ‘I came for you, princess. We’re leaving this misery.’”
The next steps were critical. Nucita’s condition was dire. She was full of bites, weighed only 31 pounds, suffered from a strong infection, a hernia, anemia, and those five fractures. She was rushed to Salinas for immediate care.
When the vet asked, “What are you going to do?” Nucita’s rescuer didn’t hesitate. “We’re going to rehab her and give her the second chance she deserves.”
With weekly appointments, medication, and therapy, Nucita’s recovery was nothing short of miraculous. Against all odds, she began to heal. And after a year of tireless love and care, on July 25, 2024, her rescuer made the hardest decision—preparing to let her go to her forever home.
“Many told me to adopt her, but I knew I had to let her go to help another baby waiting to be rescued. I’ll never forget what you taught me, Nucita, and I trust we’ll see each other again.”
Now, Nucita is ready to meet the family that will complete her story.
A Sweet Companion Looking for a Furever Home
Today, Nucita is living in a foster home, ready for the next chapter of her journey. Despite all she’s been through, she’s nothing short of sweet, affectionate, and full of life. Her love for children and her gentle nature make her a paw-some family dog. While she prefers the company of smaller dogs, her heart is big enough to cuddle with her future family all day long.
