On July 14, 2023, Nucita’s life took a devastating turn. Thrown into the streets, riddled with bumps and fractures, she was found under a bridge on Highway #52 in Cayey, Puerto Rico. Her small body had sustained five fractures to her hip and femur, leaving her in unimaginable pain. For days, she lay helpless in the rain, waiting for someone to come and save her. “I remember seeing her post on July 16th at 4:36 PM—it was shocking. No one had done anything, and she was just left there. The bad weather made it worse, and when I heard she was still out there, I knew I had to act.” – Nucita’s Rescuer. Her rescuers, fueled by determination and love, ventured out into the pouring rain to find her. When they arrived, the ground was already starting to cover her, but then, she raised her head, as if to say, "You came to save me." Her rescuer recalls: “I looked at her and said, ‘I came for you, princess. We’re leaving this misery.’” The next steps were critical. Nucita’s condition was dire. She was full of bites, weighed only 31 pounds, suffered from a strong infection, a hernia, anemia, and those five fractures. She was rushed to Salinas for immediate care. When the vet asked, “What are you going to do?” Nucita’s rescuer didn’t hesitate. “We’re going to rehab her and give her the second chance she deserves.” With weekly appointments, medication, and therapy, Nucita’s recovery was nothing short of miraculous. Against all odds, she began to heal. And after a year of tireless love and care, on July 25, 2024, her rescuer made the hardest decision—preparing to let her go to her forever home. “Many told me to adopt her, but I knew I had to let her go to help another baby waiting to be rescued. I’ll never forget what you taught me, Nucita, and I trust we’ll see each other again.” Now, Nucita is ready to meet the family that will complete her story.
